I pride myself on being a hippie liberal. Caring for the environment. It is clear to me now I said that, but didn't practice it.
After the house fire I lived for almost 6 months, outside of my computer stuff for work, out of a large duffle bag. I hated not being in my house. Away from friends. In the town I love. But I got by just fine.
When I moved back into my house (4 bedrooms) for the first week, after almost 6 months out of it, it was pretty much empty. Had to wait a week for my previous stuff saved to be delivered. It was 300+ boxes, and we are not talking small boxes.
I sat for days looking at them not knowing where to start. I joked to friends you know those mazes they make out of shrubs? I could make one with boxes.
When I grabbed the box cutter and started going thru them I was floored.
I would open up a box, take out the packing material, and be confused by what was in it.
Just looking for a pot and pan and those knives I paid way too much money for. A few books. Keepsakes. Box after box I’d open and be like WTF, push it aside and open another with the same result. Again and again. Well now 300+ times.
I asked myself again and again why the heck do I have all this stuff. Stuff I forgot I even owned (most of it BTW).
Thought about it alot. First I have some financial means. Second I like to shop. But the waste and just stupid consumption is off the charts. Bet I am not the only person here that has and is doing this.
Goodwill, I have two 18 foot closets of cloths. My city wide yard sale next spring, which might wrap into other yards or my backyard, most is going away.
We’ve got to stop consuming like this. Or at least me :)!
